Staff Engineer

Under the supervision of Project Manager and/or Project Engineer, typical duties of a Staff Engineer include the following:

  • Prepare civil engineering drawings using primarily AutoCAD computer software.

  • Prepare preliminary and final engineering plans, design concepts and reports, working independently and as part of a design team.

  • Prepare or assist in preparation of plans, specifications, reports, maps, cost opinions and other work products.

  • Communicate and coordinate with clients, public agencies, consultants, etc. to acquire and manage relevant project information.  Keep accurate records of all relevant information via the use of meeting minutes, communication logs, etc.

  • Process application forms and packages and coordinate public agency approvals.

  • Use of engineering, spreadsheet and word processing software in support of design efforts.

  • Keep organized project records, including design memoranda and electronic file back-ups, and maintain an organized workspace.

  • Keep an accurate log of hours, in the form of time sheets for billings.

  • Provide construction coordination and management as needed.

  • Coordinate workload with project managers and other engineers and designers in the office.

  • Perform quality control reviews (plan checks) of own work and work of others.  Review all work products for potential liability exposure.  Actively practice quality assurance techniques at the start of and through the design process.

  • Responsible for completing project assignments on time and within established labor budget.

  • Other technical or administrative tasks as may be periodically assigned.

  • Work overtime when requested and as needed to complete project deadlines.

Education and Experience Requirements: 

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited 4-year University

Special Requirements: 

Demonstrated proficiency in the following (may be obtained through prior employment and/or university coursework)

  • AutoCAD

  • Knowledge and understanding of land development
