Civil Engineering Internship

The Civil Engineering Intern will perform day-to-day functions under the supervision of Project Manager and/or Project Engineer.

As a Cunningham Civil Engineering Intern you will:

  • Prepare preliminary designs, working independently and as part of a design team

  • Assist in preparation of plans, specifications, reports, maps, cost opinions and other work products

  • Use engineering, spreadsheet and word processing software in support of design efforts

  • Keep project records organized, including design memoranda and electronic file back-ups, and maintain an organized workspace

  • Prepare civil engineering drawings using primarily AutoCAD computer software

  • Coordinate workload with project managers and other engineers and designers in the office

  • Perform quality control reviews (plan checks) of own work and work of others

  • Actively practice quality assurance techniques at the start of and through the design process 

  • Responsible for completing project assignments on time and within established labor budget

  • Provide construction coordination and management, as needed

  • Other technical or office function tasks, as may be periodically assigned

The successful Candidates will possess:

  • Junior, or higher, class standing pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited 4-year University

  • Prior internship at a Civil Engineering firm preferred, but not required

  • 1 year experience performing Civil Engineering site and roadway design preferred, not required

  • E.I.T. Certification preferred, but not required

  • Strong experience with AutoCad / Civil 3D

  • Ability to balance multiple projects and deadlines in a challenging and dynamic environment

  • Ability to be positive, motivated and to be able to communicate effectively with team members, clients and public agencies

  • Superior communication skills
